EPC & Course Work

1. Introduction

This section presents the digital artefacts, assignments, and reflective learning outcomes from the Enhancement of Professional Capacities (EPC) courses and core theory courses of Semester I of the M.Ed. programme. It highlights the integration of theoretical understanding with practical application and professional competencies.

2. EPC Courses – Learning Evidence

2.1 Research Proposal

  • Topic of research proposal

“A Study of Social Media Usage among Junior College Students”

  • Problem identification and objectives

Social media has rapidly become a dominant mode of communication and information sharing
among students. Although it offers various educational benefits, uncontrolled usage may
negatively affect students’ academic performance and learning behaviour. Many junior college
students spend a considerable amount of time on social media platforms, but there is limited
systematic research at the junior college level to understand their usage patterns and purposes.

The objectives of the present study are as follows:
(1) To study the pattern of social media usage among junior college students.

(2) To identify the purposes for which junior college students use social media.

(3) To study students’ perceptions regarding the educational usefulness of social
media.

  • Methodology and tools used

The present study will use the Survey Method, which is one of the most widely used and
accepted methods in educational research.

  • Learning outcome from research planning

Through the process of research planning for the study “A Study of Social Media Usage among Junior College Students,” I achieved the following learning outcomes:

  1. I developed the ability to identify a relevant educational research problem related to contemporary learner behavior and digital engagement.
  2. I gained understanding of formulating clear research objectives and research questions aligned with the selected topic.
  3. I learned to review related literature to understand existing studies on social media usage among students.
  4. I acquired skills in selecting appropriate research methods, tools, and sample size suitable for educational research.
  5. I understood the importance of ethical considerations such as informed consent, confidentiality, and responsible data collection.
  6. I improved my academic writing, planning, and analytical skills required for systematic educational research.

Reflection:

Preparing the research proposal helped me understand the systematic nature of educational research. It enhanced my skills in problem identification, literature review, and methodological planning, which are essential for academic inquiry.
